Running AlexWarp on your local machine

This means downloading the program and running it from your hard drive, not in your web browser. The advantage of this is that you can open, save, copy, and paste - you can warp any GIF, JPEG, or PNG image you want, and you can save the results to a JPEG image file. (For security, a Java applet running in a browser is not allowed to do these things.)

AlexWarp was written in Java, so you must have Java installed on your machine before you can run it.

You need to download the J2SE JRE from Sun here. Click on the latest J2SE version, and then select the JRE for your platform. (This is going to be an 8 MB or more download.)

Mac OS X people, you already have Java installed, so you don't need to download the J2SE JRE. Mac OS 9 people, sorry, you're out of luck.

When that's installed, download the AlexWarp JAR (the Java program) - click here, and select Save To Disk. Then, you should be able to just double-click on the JAR file (alexwarp.jar) to run it. Or, run it from the command line like this: "java -jar alexwarp.jar".

The program isn't very polished, but it's fun. Enjoy!
